Orthodontic
implant covered with soft tissue
If the orthodontic implant is inserted too deeply for any reason,
the head of the orthodontic implant may be buried (figure
15). When the head is buried, inflammatory hypertrophy can
arise because of poor oral hygiene. If the hypertrophy does not show any signs of
infection, the patient will show no pain. Therefore, after minimal
anesthesia, the head of the orthodontic implant should be left exposed
and treatment should then be continued with an NiTi coil spring,
not elastic chains (figure 16).
 |
Fig. 15 If the head is exposed
enough and oral hygiene is maintained well, even though the
orthodontic implant is placed in the mucosal area, treatment
may proceed without problems. |

Fig. 16
Orthodontic implants were placed on the distal area of the maxillary
canines for application of vertical forces on anterior teeth
for their intrusion. Most patients complain of implants in this
area, so exposure of the head portion in the area must be minimized
and the orthodontic implant should be placed deeply. The soft
tissue showed poor conditions, and because an orthodontic implant
was placed in the mucosal area (a,b) after topical anesthesia,
treatment was continued with an NiTi coil spring (c,d) With
the NiTi coil spring, even if soft tissue covers the head of
the orthodontic implant, treatment can be continued without
problems. |
